Unique two story, three bedroom, two bathroom home nested beside the Audubon House in Old Town Key West. Hidden behind the most photographed "Prohibition fence" in Key West, this home has a large private, sunny pool and deck, off street parking ( 1 space) , central air conditioning, and lot's of room to spread out and relax in a very convenient (but sometimes noisy) location. This home is furnished to reflect the eclectic, world-traveled taste of the owner. Beds: two queens and two twins. Maximum occupancy: 6 Bedding: 2 queens, 2 twins
House was acceptable - in need of some attention. Upstairs bathroom faucet leaks, door dead bolt lock had one screw that came completely out and the other was loose. Matresses in all rooms were in very poor shape.
My husband and I just recently rented the Whitehead house during boat week. In the past, we have stayed at The Ocean Key because of its location of 0 Duval St. We wanted to be close to Mallory Square, Schooner Wharf and Duval...we got all 3! We were steps away from everything! Not only was the location amazing, but the house was fabulous and very private! The master bedroom upstairs with the French doors opening to the balcony overlooking the pool was my favorite room. My husband said he will never stay at a hotel again! ...I only wish the pool had been heated!
First, the big positives! The pool and private courtyard are outstanding, with an outdoor table and chairs, lounge chairs, grill, and lovely plants & trees. The location can't be beat as everything near Mallory Square and Duval is within walking distance. It was ideal for taking our dacshunds on walks, and we also walked to our scuba excursions near the Hyatt. The house has plenty of living space and the owner was very helpful and pleasant. The house is generally in good condition for its age. The mild negatives. The bathrooms were not huge which could be an issue for larger groups. Masters upstairs has double vanity and decent size shower. Second bath on main level has single vanity with a small shower. The laundry is off of the pool area, although that did make it noise free to the living area. The open kitchen is serviceable for cooking. However, we mostly ate out and dined on leftovers. Overall, we would say this house is ideal if you're planning to enjoy the sites and outdoors of Key West Old Town.
Overall the experience was amazing. There were 6 of us and the stay was very comfortable and right in the middle of everything. We took several memories away from our stay here and will remember them forever. Great place, will definitely stay here again.
The Whitehead House was everything we needed. We were in town for a wedding and we had no idea how close we were to the action on the main street! We had music playing each night from the restaurant behind the house which gave us a nice background for hanging out at night around the pool. A quick walk to everything! We felt secluded since plants and trees mostly blocked our view of the street and our own private pool made the vacation that much nicer! The house was clean and refreshing. Everyone slept comfortably. On the final night it rained and it was extremely loud due to the sun windows. The only other downfall we saw was rats ran across the back fence twice on our stay I think becuase of the restaurant garbage. If you are young and want to have a good rate and fun location, this is the place for you!
nothing againest key west realty it is obvious the owner is too cheap to have lounge chair's by his pool and at least one float would have been nice and since we own a pool at home he is also could have had a major problem especiallly when the pool guy only show's up once a week to take care of the pool. if we had not put water in the pool he would have been in big trouble thing' would have shut down and that would have been the end of the motor
This house is literally steps away from Sloppy joes,Irish Kevins,Mallory square, two liquor stores, tons of food options and pletny of shopping all on the same block. We had a legendary stay here and the house accomadations were perfect. Playing cards and games, plenty of towels, private secure pool area comfortable beds. The music is loud at night but thats why we chose this house. There is a bathroom upstairs and a bathroom between the two downstairs bedrooms. The kitchen is large and accomadating for large meals with everything you need. Parking for additional cars can be arranged very affordably at the adjacent parking lot. About $10 per day and they will negotiate with you. The pool was sunny and perfect!
This house was all we needed, 3 areas to dine in, 2 lving room areas, great pool and garden, location was unbelievable, and needless to say I had a great time!!!
This was our first trip to Key West. The house was in great shape for an older house. The upstairs "master" bedroom was very noisy from the neighboring bars, but due to the fact that it has 2 walls of windows. We are night people so it wasn't a huge problem for us. The pool area was very nice. Pool is not heated and was cold, so we never used it. The location makes up for all the downfalls. It is in walking distance to basically everything you need, except for groceries. I would definitely book this house again.
We enjoyed our stay but the night noise is very loud, location is great we could walk to almost every place, Devaul Street, Mallory Square and all the shops.
This house is in a great location behind the excitement of some of the Duval street bars but with this location comes loud bands playing until 2-3 am which is bothersome if you intend on sleeping before then. The house and pool are nice but be warned that the pool is not heated and in November the pool/deck does not get any sun! We picked this house for the location and private pool and ended up not being able to use the pool at all. Very disappointing!
Location, location, location. If you want to be in the heart of old town with Sloppy's, Capt. Tony's, Rick's and all the other great watering holes withing several feet- this is the place. Great pool, nice layout and comfortable beds. All around an excellent value in Key West
I was so pleased with the rental home, and the excellent location surprised my family. It took them a couple of days to realize we didn't have to drive anywhere. Everyone who came had a different favorite part of the vacation--there was something for everyone!
This was our 3rd stay at the Whitehead House. We love the location and the pool. It's great to stay in Key West and have a kitchen and laundry. We'll be back!
Online pictures do not do the property justice. Very spacious and loaded with everything you need.Little noisy at night but if you go to Key West to sleep early then maybe you should go to a different Key. Only gripe is the parking which allows one spot. Excellent week. Will return again for sure.
We expected a lot of fun and we got it.It is close to so much, we never had to travel far.
This was the best house ever! It suited our needs to a tee and was in the best location to suit everyone. One block off of Duval made it easy for everyone to get around, young and older alike. Definitely an easy walk to Mallory Square, wharf, dinning, and entertainment. The home itself was perfect. Since we had a full house I was worried about space, but the common living space and outdoor space were so open that no one felt like we were on top of each other. The fact that we were back off the street made it seem like we had our own little piece of Key West. Everyone we came in contact with, from the owner to Rent Key West staff were so helpful and nice. We will definitely be back!!
We have stayed at this rental previously and we do enjoy the property and location to Duval Street and Mallory Square. The nightlife on Duval Street this year was very annoying. We were told by residents in the area that the issue lies with a new bar The Alamo. The extreme loudness after midnight until 3 and 4 am will give us concerns for future visits.
The size and layout of the house is great (5 adults during our stay), but the noise from bands/patrons at nearby bars until late morning hours made it very difficult to get a restful night's sleep at this house. Compounding the issue is the fact that many of the windows don't securely close, allowing the noise to filter into the house. Like other reviews, some TLC needed but good location and layout as long as you're willing to give up some sleep during your vacation.
The house was great - upstairs bed height a little scary. Should be lowered a little bit. The little sugar ants get annoying, but we had a great time. It is a noisy location, but we enjoyed it- being so close to everything.
the location was great. the house needs some tender loving care. the bed in the upstairs was too high. we had to get something to stand on in order to get in the bed. ha! If either one of us had fallen out of bed, we would have broke something for sure. ha! have rented many houses from rent key west. I would have to say I would not chose this one again. but will continue to use rent key west for extened stays. I will be in key west for over the 4th of july.
My family (myself, my mom, 4 nieces) really enjoyed our 2 week stay at the Whitehead House. The services were definately adequate. We really enjoyed the location of the house. It was very near all the venues for children. The location of a parking lot behind the property was not too bad except on weekends when the noise level was at its peak, but tolerable. We did have some setbacks that would have made the trip much better for us: 1) The pool had not been cleaned. On the Saturday afternoon we arrived the pool water was a pale shade of green and cloudy. It remained that way until the pool service technician arrived on Monday morning. We asked that he stop by every two to three days due to the length of time we were staying and because of our intended usage. 2) Into the second week of our stay the air conditioning wasn't working propery. We endured several days of inadequate cooling. It appeared that the intake filter had not been changed for some time or less frequently than required. The pool was our salvation. Upon checking out, we were told that a new unit would need to be installed. 3) My mom is a clean freak and noticed that only the visible areas in the house were clean. Each day she moved all the furniture, swept, mopped and vacumed in all the rooms. In her defense, I have to say that the house was much cleaner when we left. In conclusion, I have to say again that we really enjoyed our stay. The owners daughter lives in the front unit and was really nice to us. She frequently complimented us on our daily cleaning rituals with the children. Kind regards, Aaron Lopez
The location of this house couldn't have been better. We were able to sit right outside the gate and watch the Fantasy Fest Parade go by! However, for the price of a weekly rental we expected the house to be nicer. While it wasn't a dump by any means, the furnishings were all old and we could tell they had not been updated in quite some time. We were also under the impression that we had 2 offstreet parking spots, but we only had 1. There were 2 other spots. One was occupied by the owners who lived on property, didn't know that! The other remained empty until the weekend, though we were told not to park there at all. Overall the house was ok, though I doubt we will rent it again.
I rented the house for a week as a Christmas gift for my husband, myself and 2 daughters and their husbands. It was very convenient to everything and we felt very safe there. I don't know how old the house is but it so quaint. It was everything I expected and more. It was a great week. Thanks.
This house is fantastic! The location is awesome - right in the middle of everything!!! Everything you would want was there. House was clean, pool was excellent and off street parking is great! The 2 bedrooms and bathroom downstairs are small, but for the amount of time you really need them, they are fine. I would certainly recommend this house and plan to rent it again.
Our family, six of us stayed in Whitehead House for 6 days last September. We had a fabulous time. The house is charming and the pool is wonderful. It is close to Duval so it is noisy at night. I would recommend this more for adults than children for that reason. We were all over 25 and there to enjoy the nightlife so it worked great for us. Be sure to walk down to Kelly's for happy hour! The house has everything you need, including washer and dryer access and parking for one vehicle.
