The best of Key West, in the middle of Historic Old Town and a half block from Duval Street and the gates to Bahama Village, a perfect location for visitors to our Island. Guests can stroll to Mallory Square, Fort Zachary Beach or the sunset piers which are all within easy walking distance of this two bedroom cottage. Step from your porch on to a bricked walkway leading to a spacious outdoors featuring a large private pool, palms and mature native trees form a backdrop of tropical splendor. The cottage has tile floors throughout, skylights, an open fully equipped kitchen, sofa bed in the living room and master bedroom with king sized bed. One private off street parking spot included. Bedding: 1 king, 1 double, 1 sleeper sofa
The location and convenience of your own pool make this house a great choice. The drawbacks are the constant late-night music from the club down the street. On weekends, the music didn't turn off until after 2am. Weeknights were better, but it was still distracting and difficult to ignore. The house should be better swept/vacuumed between guests and we found that our beds didn't have sheets on them. An easy fix, but for what we paid, we shouldn't have to do that ourselves. Also, the kitchen could be better appointed with more utensils and the like. All in all, we still enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to others, but with full disclosure about cleanliness and noise.
The Key Lime Calypso cottage is located near a group of bars. The air conditioner units in the house make a great way to drown out the noise. You will hear music while lounging outside by the pool. For most people this welcome and not a issue. If someone wanted total peace around the large pool and lounging area, this house would not be the best choice. We contacted the housekeepers about the cleanliness and remedied this issue.
Great place! The pool is awesome and you couldn't ask for a better place to stay
We will surely use this rental agency again if we return to Key West. Quick response to all emails and phone calls. Location was ideal for our needs and the parking space was a treat. We were in walking distance of all attractions, food and shopping. The pool is large and private and was used a lot by our group. Everything we could need was provided. Made our trip so much more relaxing.
I was very pleased with the location of the property as it was close to many places of interest for me. The house was clean, however, we did expereince some termite problems while staying there. They swarmed a couple of nights but I called your office and was told someone would come out to check I'm not sure if anyone did but they did not reappear after that. The bed in the master bedroom was a little too firm for me and the living room sofa wasn't the most comfortable but since we didn't spend a lot of time inside it wasn't an issue. The private parking was great as was the pool and backyard sitting area of the house. We grilled out a couple of times and enjoyed the privacy. I will defianately return!
Overall I had a great time at this house and enjoyed the pool and BBQ. Everything was great, besides toaster not working well and some power outlets not functioning everything else was fine. The location is perfect!
Key Lime Calypso cottage was a great place to stay, very convienient location. We could hear music/noise outside by the pool during the day from the Orleans House (2 doors down) but this was no bother to us, and it was quiet at night. The pool is awesome - large by Key West "standards". The floor in the cottage was a bit dirty, but as soon as we called management, they sent someone out right away and cleaned it. Rent Key West staff are very professional, courteous, helpful and responsive. The owner might consider buying some additional drinking glasses, coffee mugs and plates - it was OK for 2 of us, but if 4 people are staying in the cottage, I could see where more would be needed to keep from running the dishwasher as often. All said, I would definitely stay in this cottage again, and rent from this company again.
The Key Lime Calypso is a private residence that has a wonderful swimming pool with lots of shade trees. You can swim all day and not get sunburnt. The location and off street parking are very convenient. We stayed for a week, and the staff cleaned the pool, brought us laundry detergent and were very friendly. The only downside was the matress was not a pillowtop- slightly uncomfortable. The kitchen was equipped with older appliances but they all worked except the toaster. The house was clean upon our arrival we enjoyed the experience. We will be back for our third stay!
This is a rare find, a private retreat with a pool and sun deck and privacy for nude sunbathing and swimming. The king bed needs a new mattress and the floors are dirty (have to wear flip flops to keep your feet clean), but otherwise our week here was fantastic! We will be back.
We have stayed there many times. We love the pool and outside area a lot. The king bed is very comfortable. Everything was clean and shining when we arrived, much better than in the past. The furniture in side and outside needs to be replaced. For a $2000.00 + a week property there is no excuse. The location is key, it doesn't get any better. There is a little late night noise for the club a couple doors down but you get used to it quickly. From reading the previous posts here there are a lot of loyal customers that use this property. I will again also, we just think it is time to upgrade the furnishings. If you don' t have to have "fancy" you will like this place. P.S. Just adding the little bedroom should not raise the price as it has.
Upon check-in, I was a little taken aback at the lack of privacy. The doors are glass and the walls do not go up to the ceiling, so you can hear pretty much everything, no matter where you are in this cozy house. But, it turned out not to be a big deal since we were traveling with family anyway, and you learn to be careful. Also, we were in the yard almost the whole time we were at the house. The pool is ideal for families with children, and the yard has a lot of shade. Chickens and cats visited every day, which the kids loved too. The accomodations were modest, so I wouldn't say this is the greatest value, but island life isn't cheap! We didn't experience any of the problems with cleanliness that other reviewers did, and the location is no less than perfect. You are a block off the heart of Duval Street, and Petronia itself has a few great restaurants. I wouldn't want to be any closer to Duval, especially when traveling with kids that go to bed early. I would also say that though you can hear some music from the neighboring club when you're outside, it's at a reasonable volume and is kind of nice. You can't hear it at all when in the house, as the air conditioners and fans are on all the time anyway. All in all, don't expect luxury, and you won't be disappointed. Think of this house as a simple island cottage and you will really enjoy yourself. We had a great time!
We had a wonderful time. The yard is terrific. We really enjoyed the cat and the rooster.
We have rented three different homes with RentKeyWest over the past 5 years and they all have their high points. Overall this location is great except loud, the pool and surroundings outstanding but the house needs to be updated. The kitchen needs to be restocked with glassware, dishes, pots and pans, (a measuring cup) and the dishwasher needs to have hot water hooked up to it to sterilize the things that are washed. The two cats that visited and we fed were great additions and hopefully future renters will keep them fed!!
We arrived in the evening. Our keys were in a lockbox as per instructions from KY Rentals. However when we arrived at the house, the sheets had not been changed on the beds. It was pretty obvious because hair was all over the sheets and black debirs. The black specks and crumbs were probably from someone's feet from walking around on the ceramic floor and getting into the bed. We washed the sheets and reported it the next day. The house has a lovely backyard. The pool was absolutely wonderful. The kids did truly enjoy the pool. The house was dated as reported in other reviews. But the location could not be beat. The house is right off of Duval Street. There are so many restaurants, stores, bars, etc. There are a few issues with the home. There is a spanish lime tree above the house. This tree drops the fruit from the tree onto the roof. The sound can be loud at times because the home has a tin roof. However, you do get use to it. The walls that are attached to the two bedrooms do not go all the way to the ceiling. And the bedrooms have glass doors. This could be a problem with two different couples staying at the home because of limited privavcy. However it was not an issue for us. In past reviews someone reported a cat staying on the property. We never saw a cat during our 8 day stay. Also we did see the roosters but we never did hear them. On the weekends, you can hear the music from the club until 4:30a. This was not a problem for us, we enjoyed hearing the house music. However it is a warning for folks who go to bed early and don't like a lot of noise. Other then those few issues, we had an absolute good time and enjoyed the home.
The house was great! The only thing I would say it needs is new pillows and sheets in the master! Kind of nasty with lots of stains! Great location and would love to stay again sometime!
We stayed here for 10 days and would stay again. I will start with the few negatives- the decor is a little dated and needs a little freshing up. The floors were a little dirty when we arrived. Finally, the number we were given to call was out of service! Considering we were there for 10 days there was nothing major to complain about. We loved the backyard, the photos do not do any justice to how large it really is. We absolutely loved the location and the space of the house was very comfortable for the two of us. We had no problems with safety or maintenance, place was great. I liked working through RentKW, they were easy and no problems whatsoever. We both said we would definitely stay there again, without a doubt. Please enjoy!
I would definitely stay here again. I enjoyed my stay. Private back yard. Only downside would be the bedroom situation is a bit weird. No ceilings in either room and glass door. It was a non-issue in retrospect because we made due. The pool is HUGE for Key West and beautiful. You cannot ask for a better location. 1 block from My Blue Heaven for breakfast every morning is a huge plus. I would definitely recommend this place and I would stay again.
The location of this house can't be beat! Also, the backyard/pool is incredible! The pool is much larger than most and the yard is lush and tropical. The front yard gated parking is also a plus. The best part was the pool & location. The worst part was the uncomfortable sofa and 2nd br. bed. Also the floors were very dirty upon our arrival, but immediately after complaining, a janitor was sent to clean them. Also, the home was advertised as having a dvd player, but did not, but after we complained, one was brought over the next afternoon. Overall, it was a great house - certainly not luxurious, but definitely adequate.
This cottage is only 1/2 block off Duval, but is incredibly peaceful. We were warned about noise from nearby bars but it didn't affect us. The pool is 30' long, and the huge yard is kept immaculate by daily pool/yard service. Inside, it was all nicely kitted out, and when we had a problem with the dishwasher (no water getting in to it) the landlords fixed it swiftly, and left us a nice little note! The bedroom (and the bed) was huge - though this may change as builders were due to move in after we left. It was fun looking at stars through the skylight - but if you like a dark bedroom, this wouldn't be for you. Key Lime Calypso is next door to a dessert restaurant 'Better than Sex', which you have to try - more than once in our case. It's all about location - we were able to walk everywhere - to shops, bars, restaurants and attractions - the cottage is close to them all.
Upon arriving at the house the key they gave us wouldn't unlock the door. We had to wait for a caretaker to show up to open the door from the inside. Going into the place the first thing we noticed was that the dishwasher was inop and stayed that way during our entire stay. In the bedroom there is a skylight right over the bed so forget about sleeping in. If you have a skylight there at least have one that can be closed. The house has a tin roof and right over the house is a tree that has some sort of balls on it and all during the night it sounded like someone was on the roof tap dancing. There was a cat on the property that stayed all the time. It was our responsibility to see that it got fed morning and night and we even had to buy food to feed it. If you're allergic to cats this isn't the place for you. They advertise a private pool but, it's not private at all. The house right next door has a clear view of the pool. Also the pool was over chlorinated every day. The T.V. in the main part of the house is much too small for where they have it located. It's on a wall stand across the room for the couch and chair and not worth trying to watch from there. The only thing good that we can say about the place is the location. It is right off Duvall St and that is good.
This one-bedroom cottage is an incredible find! It's got everything you need for a great stay in Key West - full kitchen, laundry, parking, charcoal grill, back patio, and private pool. It's less than a block off of Duval Street, the heart of Old Town, so you'll have access (walking or by scooter, which I highly recommend - fun!) to all the restaurants, bars and shops you can want. If this place is available when you're headed to Key West, don't miss the chance to stay there. It's very affordable, and you won't regret it!
Rent Key West was a pleasure to work with. The house was a perfect little paradise for the two of us. Reading the journal informed us of the cat and roosters that came with the house and they provided us with hours of entertainment. The off street parking behind the gate is a great security feature. Oh, and the pool was beautifully maintained and large. We will plan our next Key West vacation around this house's availability.
This home is right in the middle of it all, and what a wonderful little place! Our only issues were with the bar - the music we got used to, but people drift out from the bar right up to the fence in the backyard late at night. We were woken up one night by a couple of partying people having their own private soiree. Other than that the pool is excellent, much larger than most cottages. The kitchen desperately needs an update, but who wants to cook on vacation anyways?! We absolutely loved the kitty that stays on the property. He meows when you walk in the door, ready for his dinner. Don't forget to buy him cat food when you run for staples.
The house was very comfortable and pleasant but it wasn't very clean upon check in. Not bad, but it definitely could have been better. Kitchen faucet broke the first day and it took almost 3 days to get it repaired and it was very annoying to not have water in the kitchen for that long. The outside pool area was definitely the best part of the house. I wasn't happy with the overflowing ashtrays that were left from the last renter but once those were taken care of, it was a great time. I adored the cat that has adopted the property but I think I should have been informed that he/she existed before I rented the property. While I loved having him/her there I had a friend visit who is highly allergic to cats and he couldn't be anywhere near the cat and eventually had to stop coming over. I would have preferred knowing about the cat in advance. And Brock, the guy who takes care of the pool was a pleasure to visit with every morning. I really did have a great time even with the few problems that did exist.
We rented from Rent Key West and I would rent from them again. The house was clean and ready for us when we arrived. Check in and check out was very quick. If we needed anything all we had to do was call. The house is small but really all you need for no longer than we were in the house. It can accomadate up to four with no problems. It is nothing fancy (could use some updating) but it was clean and comfortable. It has it's own private parking spot which is really nice. The pool area was very nice. It really was a good size pool. There was 4 adults and we had plenty of room to spare. It had an umbrella table with chairs and some lounge chairs and lots of foilage. When we arrived the pool hadn't been cleaned(lots of leaves in it) but all it took was a phone call to the rental company and the guy was right there to clean it and it was cleaned every morning during our stay. That was great! At that time of year (June) the sun starting shining on the pool area around 11 am and stayed there until around 4 or 5 pm. Blue Heaven (one of the best restaurants for breakfast) was within walking distance from the house as was Duval Street. Although we were within a block of Duval Street, noise was not a factor at all. I would recommend Key Lime Calypso and would stay there again.
I have stayed in this house several times. My wife and I love the king size bed and the private pool. The location can not be beat in any manner. The people at Rent Key West Vacations are wonderful to deal with and will work with you in any manner.(Go Joyce)The things we liked least is when it rains the roof leaks in the bedroom around the skylight, the furniture is in poor shape and is very uncomfortable. In short the owners need to spend some money on it and then would be one of the nicest little places in Key West. And Yes we will stay there again
The house is cute and parking is great. The house is 3" from the bar next door. It was quite noisy and kept us awake more than once until 3:00am. During the day it is near an outdoor pool club that plays loud music all day. The heat for the pool was extra and only worked once all week. We made repeated calls to have it fixed. If you are a hardcore party person it is right rental for you. It is very close to all the action. I wanted the private pool and a bit of quiet so it was not me.
Key Lime Calypso is a spacious 1 bedroom home located centrally within downtown Key West and also contains the rarity of off street parking. Because of the home?s location, it does get some noise/music from nearby bars. The bar mentioned above has since been turned into a dessert shop, so that will alleviate some of the music going on later into the night. If you are looking for a smaller home with a private pool, a prime location, and off street parking, Key Lime Calypso is the one for you!
I have rented four times with rentkeywest. Twice for the summer at Olivia Cottage and two times for short stays at Calypso. Olivia Cottage is awesome, but it is a monthly rental which met my needs thoroughly when staying in 04 and 06. The KL Calypso was rented by me at the last minute for quick getaways. The location is the best thing about the house. It could use some updating especially in the bathroom. The bedroom is huge with a nice comfortable king bed and the outdoor space is nice because of the pool area. On my last stay there, the pool filtering system was not working at all and the pool was milky. The tree above the house dropped leaves in the pool and clogged the filter. I would have thought that should have been serviced on a regular basis. The owners of the house from the Bourbon Street Complex were quick in their efforts to resolve the problem and their pool maintenance man was diligent in his efforts but it still took four days to resolve. After contacting RKW, some money was returned for our inconvenience which was nice and appreciated. The room air conditioner in the master bedroom did not work at all and needs to be replaced. I recommend RKW for rentals, but realize all of the rentals are not of the same quality. You get what you pay for. My stays at Olivia Cottage have been without complaint, but the Calypso needs some updating and work.
My husband and I stayed for 2 weeks at Key Lime Calypso. We also got married! The location is great! The bar next door is no problem (meaning noise level). The guys are very nice too! As for the house we thought it was to much money for what we had. It is really run down. We both thought everything needed updateing.. i.e. furniture,bathroom,TV's,VCR-no DVD!Where do you even buy a VCR tape? The patio furniture was miss matched and old. The porch needed paint too. We also asked for new pillows and they were replaced by old stained ones. We did enjoy the pool and the cat. The roosters were great accept for the early morning wake ups. Sometimes at 4:30am! The parking is great to have too. Can fit 2 cars easily. Just one more thing we would like to thank the guys next door for the tickets to the New Years Eve Party! We had so much fun and met alot of nice people. My husband even proposed to me there!!! I also have to thank you guys for helping us find a person to marry us and she was such a great person and a big help!! We were married at The Alligator and Mermaid and her friend took the pictures! It was so nice of the gentleman at The Alligator and Mermaid to let us get married there. That place is beautiful!! Great place to take photos. Sorry our revue is negetive but if can help I think that place could really be gorgous. I have always used Rent Key West. I think I have been down 4 times now. I hope to use you again in the future. Thanks for asking our opinion. Sharon and Glenn
It is a wonderful, quite getaway. It has everything you need, except a corkscrew, we bought a cheap one then it broke so I took the bottle next door and they opened it. Location, location, location is perfect. Pool wonderful...we would definitely stay again.
A great location within walking distance of almost everything you'd want to see or experience. The house and pool are well built and maintained. The only draw back to our stay was not having access to the internet which is important to our lifestyle. If the internet is not important to you then we highly recommend this vacation home.
The cottage was a great "get away from it", but yet was right in the heart of the main area Key West, just off Duval St. As the property was centrally located along Duval St, it was also quiet and peaceful. The private pool was great to have and the garden had a lovely sunny aspect, but there was enough shade to get out of the sun if you wanted too. The pool was welcome as the main beaches on the island are too far to walk if you do not have access to a car. As eveything else though, shops, bars and places to it are all so close and within walking distance there is really no need for a car. The cottage all the facilities required and was spotlessly cleaned. If I visisted Key West, I would definately stay here again.
This is a perfect place to stay. Beautiful pool, clean house and close to everything.Hope to get back soon. Bill and Virginia Kolar.
