This charming Key West style cottage is just a short walk to a selection of great restaurants, art galleries, or shopping on Duval Street. Better yet, it is just three blocks to a beach (Duval & South Streets). This house can comfortably sleep four and offers a fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms, living area with outside dining, BBQ and a small pool. The open style living and dining area has a comfortable sofa and a dining table for four. Two sets of French doors open up to an outside area directly from the living room. The Guest bedroom has a wood-beamed high ceiling, King bed (or two twins), a sitting area and large windows that open out to the pool. The Master Suite is a bit smaller but also has a King sized bed and a private bathroom. Pleasing tropical interior with warm pastel colors and wood accents create an inviting ambience which makes this home a comfortable vacation hideaway.
We stayed at 518 Catherine the week after Christmas through New Years and everything could not have been better. From the initial contact with Laura at Rent Key West to our departure the entire experience was first-class and made for an excellent stay. The location to Duval is ideal especially since it is the quiet end of the street. The plunge pull was great for our toddler daughter and having a washer and dryer was nice. We enjoyed the Butterfly Nature Conservatory was excellent as was the Key West aquarium. Overall, 518 Catherine is a great place to stay for a small family or two couples. Ask for Laura or Steve when booking. They are great. Brad
Catherine house was very nice. Location could not be more convenient. The house was clean and comfortable and was well equipped with everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The back sitting area was very nice with beautiful vegetation. The only thing that was disapointing was that the swim spa was not very warm even though we payed a substantial fee for heat. We would gladly rent this house again!
We spent five nights here and enjoyed it very much. For such an old home, it was in very good condition. It was clean, comfortable and quiet. The house is located one block off the south end of Duval St. This is the quiet end of Duval St. So if you plan on late nights closer to the north end, I would find a place further north. It's a long walk when you have no transportation. A couple of notes. We started cooking on the grill our first night and discovered that we could not turn the back patio light on and ended up cooking in the dark as the sun went down. Plan accordingly or move the grill before you get started. The pool also has a slow leak so we had to add water a couple of times. All in all we had a great time in Key West and the Catherine House met our expectations. It was priced in line with other places we looked at and I would have no problem staying there again.
Duval Street is 1.25 miles long running from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean with the Catherine House just over a mile from the northern end of Duval. After a night on the town, alternative forms of transportation, such as bicycles, pedicabs, or taxicabs can expedite this travel home if you aren't in the mood for walking. (Did you know you can get a DUI on a bicycle? True!) There is a motion sensor/photocell light over the barbeque that's hard to reach to test, so this light bulb was changed and the problem solved. This guest was utilizing the optional pool heat and with a small pool like the Catherine House has, the evaporation rate is high requiring more water to be added to the pool every few days. The pool company is monitoring for a leak, but so far it appears to be just from evaporation. We are certainly glad that the guest's expectations were met and we hope to have them back as guests very soon.
Loved it. Love the plunge pool. Great location!!! Lots of good food nearby. Local stuff!!!
The Catherine House was perfectly situated for us, less than a block off of Duval Street, but when you went into the backyard, you were secluded and quiet. It was a lovely house, comfortably furnished, split bedrooms for privacy, well-stocked kitchen, cool pool for dipping into at the end of the day. Our visit was most enjoyable.
The house is chraming, abundant Kitchen ware and towels, A/C in Master bedroom was extremely noisy making it difficult to sleep when compressor kicked on. House needed a thorough cleaning, windows were filthy, only the most common areas were cleaned and dusted, pool deck needs pressure washing, tables and shelves needed to be dusted. I suggest hiring a different cleaning crew. Overall was not worth the cost.
The property has recently sold and the new owners are starting to make their mark on the property. New ductless split air conditioning units (11/11) have been installed in the living area and the back bedroom. The painters are due in before season as well, so there are more improvements to come!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this charming conch-style cottage. Though the pool was very small, it allowed us to cool off! Terrific location just off Duval St but at the "quieter" end. We had a car, for which we easily found parking around the block, but just parked it and rode bikes everywhere. A car is definitely not needed. Service by the Kwrents management company, especially Steve & Joyce, was top notch. can't wait to return!
We couldn't have chosen a better cottage! No negative comments from us.
We experienced Catherine house as a romantic place with warm and lovely atmosphere. It was closed to the main street, only 1 min walking distance...! Very nice bars and restaurants nearby. we had a lot of fun and no problem with Check in and the service provided. Once our dishwasher was broken, one phone call was enough to get that fixes. we felt taken care of and welcomed in a very nice way. Defintily recommended. We would come back every time.
We loved every minute and plan on returning to Key West next year.
The house was clean, neat, everything there that was needed except food and booze. Location great, half block from Duval Street, walkable to the pier, marinas, restaurants and bars. Much more comfortable than the hotels we usually stay at in Key West, very convenient. Made us feel like we were at home while there.
The location of Catherine House was the best part of the deal. I couldn't judge price b/c I've never stayed anywhere else. The pool was terrific however a concern was the patio door from the bedroom to the pool was locked and felt that to be a fire safety hazard. The "King" size bed in the second bedroom was actually two twins shoved together. Not comfy. The amount of time you actually spend in the house is minimal so rent it. oh, the biggest complaint besides there is no real parking (so if you have an "American" (big) car, don't bring it!!!) There is no off street parking for "non'residents!!!" OK, the biggest problem and I hope they fixed it. The cleaning team doesn't take out the older food/spices and the ant's were everywhere... I threw out the flour/sugar which made those little guys scatter all over the place! Made me feel like I was in college again! Ewww! Otherwise the place is perfect!!! Location, location, location!!! Duval Krawl, try it, you won't make it!!! Lol!!!
We usually stay at the other end of Duval but this was a nice change. Lots of fun things to do on upper Duval and the area is great for morning walks, runs and bike rides. The kitchen is not meant for more than a quick meal but there are many great places to eat that are a very short walk. Rent Key West was very friendly and helpful as usual. Even if we don't rent this house again we will definitely use Rent Key West.
Nice house, great location!! Will most definately be back for a second stay!!
The home had ample room, but the poartable AC units made noise when the compressor came on and were noisy each night. The kitchen was stocked well. The sheets were too old and needed replacing. The beds were good, the bathrooms adequate. The pool area nice. The rental company was nice to us. The location was a distance from Duval, but we made it work by renting bikes. Central AC would cool the house better.
We thank this guest for their business and input during their stay. Our maintenence techincian visited the home and fixed the air conditioner on their second day during their stay. The home is only 1/2 a block off Duval St. so there is a distance - a very short one. As for the sheets, the owner has been infomed about replacements. 12/16- New 300 thread count sheets were purchased for the home.
We enjoyed our stay at the Catherine House very much. It is a great vacation house. Everyone at Rent Key West was very helpful. I liked the short history of the Cigar house. The location was fine for us, better than we expected. We did have a little trouble finding the washer and dryer. Very comfortable.
I would highly recommend Rent Kew West and the Catherine House. Customer service was great and we were able to check in after hours with no problems. The house was clean, decorations adorable and all the beds and couches were comfortable. The house is close enough to walk to Mallory Square and all of Duval. Some of the best places to eat are right around the corner: Camille's and Abbodanza Italian. The only thing I was disappointed with was the pool. I knew it was going to be small, and actually the size was perfect. But the back yard is so shaded we hardly got any sun. I would have preferred if the trees had been trimmed so we could enjoy being in the pool more. So the pool is not a good lay-out or tan pool but is still nice to have nonetheless. I will stay there again.
Catherine Street home was very accomadating, well kept and clean. All appliances worked well. House is situated in an ideal location off of Duval Street with easy access to all activites. I would highly recommmend this cottage to any traveler. Thank You
Like all the Rent Key West properties we've used, Catherine Street was well-equipped, peaceful, but close to all the amenities of Duval Street. We've been renting through RKW for years, and the people in the office can't do enough - if you have a problem, they send someone round immediately (the porch lights weren't working when we arrived) This property was 2-bed/2 bath, big comfortable beds, a well-equipped kitchen, and lots of space. The yard was small, and didn't get much sun, but we liked the water feature by the newly-installed pool. It's just off Duval - at the quiet end - within easy walking distance of bars and cafes - immediately round the corner are Banana Cafe, and a brilliant coffee house. Beware, the outside grill is electric, and the only power socket is at the far end of the yard.
Catherine House was perfect for my wife, me and our two year old son. Would be great for two couples, as well. Great walking distance to all the Duval Street attractions. Kitchen was small, but we managed to create some very nice meals rather than eating out all the time. Pool was small, but perfect for a secluded dip. I'll give Catherine House the best compliment: We would stay there again.
Cute little house in a great location just off Duval. Vacant lots near by are an eye-sore. The main part of the house is small, but open and fairly comfortable. Two sets of french doors open to the pool area, though we had to move a big TV out from in front of one set of doors. Both bedrooms have comfortable beds and each had a full bath. The pool would have been great, but the heater did not work and it couldn't be fixed for us. Huge disappointment! We passed on several nicer houses with no pool to have one with a pool. Though we paid to have the house cleaned, it was quite dirty when we arrived and we spent Sunday cleaning. Would consider staying there again, but feel some cleaning, repairs and a lower price would be in order.
Catherine House is truely a shotgun house -- long and narrow -- but has been renovated into a cozy and lovely little two-bedroom. The beds are large and comfy, with two full baths perfect for two couples. The kitchen is basic, but open to the living area and more than sufficient for vacation meals. The pool is more like a tub, but is fine for toddlers and tired parents who want to dip their feet and sip margaritas after the kids are in bed. What makes this house great is the location: a half-block off lower Duval and walking distance to beaches, great food, and bars. It is far enough from the chaos of upper Duval to be quiet at night. One downside is lack of parking. We had to search a bit, as there is no driveway and only one side of the street can be used to park. Management and checkin/out was seamless and responsive, and they even forgave us for losing one set of keys! We rented highchairs and cribs from the recommended service, and they were set up perfectly when we arrived. Kudos!
