We were looking for a quiet and relaxing place to stay while I attended a meeting. I loved the condo but the stairs are a little steep but the cabana fit our needs perfectly.
We were delighted when we arrived early and were able to get into our unit. We had been up since 3 AM and were quite tired. The unit was adorable; comfortable for two people. We enjoyed sitting out on the back deck every afternoon. Only think wrong there was that the fountain/pond was not filled or working. I would suggest that they fill it in (must be a breeding ground for bugs) and either extend the deck or fill in with shrubbery. The location was ideal for restaurants and walking down to Duvall Street where all the action was happening but far enough of way that it was very quiet. The pool was delightful and we used it every day. We rented bikes from a vendor that was recommended by the rental agent and were very satisfied. We had a great time biking all over the island. In our unit I would suggest that they provide a dish towel for drying dishes and some cleaning supplies.
Very accomodating management company when there were problems. Private community so close to Duval and some great restaurants, yet away from the noise and hustle/bustle. Perfect small property for 2 people, though the stairs were especially steep, so if anyone has physical limitations, wouldn't recommend it. We were wary of the air conditioning, but we kept quite comfortable and even used the small heater a few times in the unseasonable very cool 50 weather. It's obviously been recently painted and had some remodeling (kitchen/baths); however, the ponds on the property need some attention--they could be so much more pleasant with a little clean-up. The back deck was a surprise, but the pond's neglected condition made it less appealing to sit outside with coffee or a drink. The pool was bigger than it looked in the pictures. Good vacation!
The service at Rent Key West is exceptional, very friendly. My husband & I have stayed at the Colony a number of times before it went condo and after. I'm sorry to say the general condition of the property can't compare to it's pre condo days. This year things had improved but more needs to be done. With the exception of units 1&2 the others need a little loving care. We love the area and hope the Colony will be around for a long time.
Location was perfect-out of the madness, but within walking distance of all the fun and attractions, plus the BEST retaurant is 1/2 block away. The name of it is "Seven Fishes". Our accomodation was so comfortable-had everything we wanted and was secluded from the street with a very nice pool. The only negative was the confusion over parking. There is a parking area, but a notice was posted in the unit saying you could not use the area without a permit. When we called the rental office, we were told they did not handle the permits. The on street parking was marked for local residents only. We took a chance and parked in the lot for the units and did not encounter a problem. When we first got to the unit, the smoke alarm was beeping low battery. We called and there was a maintenance man there to fix the problem within 15 minutes. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!
This condo is located in a residential neighborhood a few blocks from where it all happens in Kew West, so it's close enough to walk anywhere you want. At the same time, it is quiet and private. The property consists of about 10 units built around a backyard pool. Nicely decorated, it has a nice bedroom upstairs with a king-sized bed, a bathroom with a tub, and a small furnished kitchen on the first floor in case you'd like to cook in. There is street parking only, so you may have to park up to a block or so away. This condo would make a really nice romantic getaway for two.
As I was booking this accommodation direct and from the UK, I was obviously concerned that everything would be OK for a late arrival via Miami. Staff were very attentive via email and the arrival instructions were spot on. The Colony Cabana complex, while in need of a little TLC was a lovely haven just off the busy Duval Street. Our duplex was comfortable with adequate facilities, comfortable bed and appreciated deck area at the back for relaxation. We deliberately did not hrie a car and the location was perfect for exploring the whole of the town. The self-catering facilities were excellent, though, having discovered the wonderful Camille's we did not even cook as much as a slice of toast for breakfast! The Rent Key West lady at the office made excellent recommendations for sight seeing and eating. Olivia Street is perfectly situated far enough away from the bustle of the harbour area, yet within a very short walk of some fine restaurants. The cycle hire man came to the door and nothi
