In the heart of Old Town, with the beautiful community of private homes and condominium of Truman Annex, this Shipyard Condominium is great access to Zachary State Park Beach as well as the Historic Old Town Key West. This beautifully decorated first floor condominium on Southard Street has two bedrooms, one & half baths. The living room is nicely furnished with leather sofas, tv with DVD and high speed internet along with a fully equipped kitchen and dinette area to accommodate four people. Both bedrooms have a queen size beds. A large back deck gets ample sun with the pool nearby and a gas BBQ for cooking outside. Bedding: 2 queens
Shipyard Palms is in a great location. We were able to walk to everything. The home was nice but the back courtyard could use some cleaning up. We were always on the go so the property was perfect for us. I would stay there again.
We had a great time at the condo but it is not well kept. The carpet was wet in the main bedroom from the airconditioning unit and was not clean. Cockroach in the kitchen in the morning scurrying in the dark.
the condo was very clean and cute. the stove has two burners that are somewhat bent. One of the little kitchen cuboard doors was broke. It had a shortage of a couple decent frying pans.the bedrooms are very small. To small to have dressers in them or a mirror. the only other thing that bothered us was the sticky deck and table on the back patio.I'm sure it is caused by some kind of tree hanging over patio. might have played cards out there if it hadn't have been. the pool and courtyard was lovely.
Perfect condo for 2 couples. Great location with gated parking. Nice decor and comfortable furnishings. Washer and drier were a great bonus.
My husband and I went to Key West to celebrate our 10 year anniversary. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. It was perfect in location, amenities, and convenience. As we walked around Key West, we both thought that we could not have picked a better place to stay...loved every minute.
This condo was absolutely perfect for my husband and I... clean, well-stocked (though the owner could invest in a couple of non-stick frying pans), very comfy bed, close to everything . We rented bikes from the Moped Hospital on Truman and Simonton ($40 for the week... the best deal around) and rode all over Key West... Mallory Square, the harbor, the southernmost point, Higgs Beach (for July 4th fireworks), Hemingway's House. Nothing was too far. The condo is a stone's throw from Fort Zachery Taylor State Park --- we enjoyed both the fort and the beach. The famous Green Parrot bar is right beyond the Truman annex gate. There's a grocery store on Fleming... very handy. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars it because the carpet in the back bedroom (between the bed and the closet) was wet the entire week we were there. When I called about it (just to warn them since it wasn't affecting us... we just slept in the other room), I was told that this sometimes happens due to a problem with the a/c compressor in the closet. I was later told the previous tenants left coolers full of water and the cleaners spilled some when removing them. Given the fact that the water never dried up and given the design of the pipework, it's more likely an issue caused by the a/c unit. It rendered that back bedroom useless for anything other than storing suitcases on the bed. If you intend to use both bedrooms, be sure to ask if the floor is dry in that back bedroom. Aside from that, you need to know that the pool closes early... our paperwork said it was open til 10 p.m., but it is actually locked at dusk. Also, there's a sign saying "no diapers" and "children not toilet trained are not allowed in the pool." This could be a definite problem for people with young children (the complex apparently has never heard of swim diapers!!). Bottom line is that for this couple with no un-potty trained kids, this place was perfect!
A short walk to Duval St and not much further to the beach at Zach Taylor State Park. Pool close by and not crowded. Greate deck out back to relax upon. Loved it.
Great location! Walked everywhere, to the beach, Duval street, restaurants. Condo was perfect for the 4 of us. Much better than sharing a hotel room. Loved the outside patio space and the condo common pool was clean and convenient on the days we didn't walk to the beach. Will stay here again in the future.
Shipyard palms is an ideal location. Close to Duval and the other places, but not too close, easy walking distance. Only problems we saw, was the bathroom fixtures need to be tightened and or replaced. Also living room tv very small. Closet folding door, needs to be attached it is leaning against the a/c. Floor trim around patio door was loose. Other than those minor things, we were more than pleased.
We loved the location of this rental. We could walk to the beach and to Duval St. . The weather was great. Ft. Zachary beach feels like you are in the Carribean and is just gorgeous. Mallory square is fun for sunsets. We never seem to get to all the restaurants we want to try--this time we made it to Blue Heaven, Santiago's Bodega and loved them both. Key West is the perfect vacation! Other reviews about this unit commented on the small second bathroom. Although it is small, it is funtional. We loved the french doors and had them open as much as possible to the deck. It was wonderful to see the sun, blue sky's and palm trees. This unit was perfect for the 2 of us. We even had 2 friends stay with us for 2 nights and loved it.
The location from Duval St was very accomodating. It was nice that we were right next to Ft. Zach and the beach. It had most of the amenities including washer and dryer. We did however have to use alot of the floor space in the living area for our luggage. The barbecue grill left much to be desired. It was old and rusty. It was fairly comfortable but not very much room in the bedrooms to get around in. It was nice that we had two bathrooms even if a closet was remodeled to accomodate the half bath. The website gives the appearance that it is larger than in real life. The outside deck was cozy. Too bad the air conditioner is installed where it is. Not much peace and quiet when lounging on the deck. The compressor was quite noisy.
We are glad these guests enjoyed their stay at our property. It is is true that the bedrooms are a bit on the small side though this is one our our most economical downtown properties. So for our future guests that are looking for a cute, oldtown condo at a great deal, this is the place. The owner just replaced the grill in the private back deck area as well as some renovations inside including new carpet, restocked the kitchen, painted the walls and put in new tv's and bedding!
Okay, the rooms are a tad small and you'd have to be an amputee to use one of the bathrooms but hey, it's Key West!! That being said you couldn't ask for a better location! Located at the end of Truman annex its a short, short walk to Duval or pretty much anywhere else on the island. The best part? This is where the Fantasy Fest Parade starts! So, put your patio chairs in front, grab a drink and watch the parade. Then you'll have time to eat dinner, grab another drink, put on a costume and make it to Duval street to see the entire parade again! Very cool place with a back garden/patio that is perfect for relaxing!
The location was excellent, the unit was comfortable and clean, the amineties were all one could ask for.
This condo was really nice it needed to have a few minor things taken care of like the towel rack in bathroom was broke and the pots on the back porch needed cleaned out or gotten rid of. My best friend and I stayed for 7 nights and it was very nice plenty of room 1 1/2 baths 2 bedrooms. The only real problem that I had was that the parking was on the other side of the condo's and there was a parking lot less then 3 doors down from us and we couldn't use. The pool looked nice but we never got to use it to busy with visiting all the beautiful beaches. Can't wait to come back to visit again!
All in all it was exactly as advertised. Clean, neat, well stocked and very enjoyable. If there was any complaint it was with the TV system - way too old but still watchable. Loved being this close to the main part of Key West.
Nice, if smallish accomodations close to Duval and the seaport. Quiet, safe neighborhood. WiFi at the pool was nice.
Rent Key West has a great website with appealing pictures and descriptions, although I did encounter errors when I actually tried to book online. That was okay, as booking over the phone was easy and the staff friendly. After my initial booking conversation over the phone, I received email updates every few months before my stay. The property itself was just beautiful, exactly what we were looking for. It was very handy having a washer and dryer, dishwasher and kitchen on our trip. We used the electric grill at least once a day. MUCH better than staying at a hotel. The property itself was within walking distance of the beach, downtown, the Southernmost Point, practically everything. I've already recommended Rent Key West to several friends.
loved this rental. was in the perfect location. would highly recommend. great neighborhood.
Shypyard Palms, (Truman Annex, Key West), was a great place to stay for our week at Key West! The condo was very comfortable, clean, very convenient and had all you can wish for a great holiday! The swimming pool was great, too and the surroundings was quiet and stylish! A special mention to Rent Key West Vacation, the rental agency, for their kindness and their efficiency! A real pleasure to deal with! We hope come back soon in Key West and certainly with Rent Key West!
the condo was very clean plenty of room..ac worked great..quiet area..yet close enough to walk to all the festivities!!!!!!!condo had everything we needed ...just like home
This was our first time to the Keys & we loved every minute of it! My husband & I were celebrating our 10th Anniversary. We went w/ my brother & his wife who were celebrating their 1st Anniversary. Rent Key West was great to work with. They have the system down pat. We did everything over the phone, email or through fax with no problems. We loved staying at the Shipyard Palms. It was so nice to have our own space- more than just a hotel room. We made breakfast in our kitchen almost every morning & grilled out dinner a few nights. Its a great way to save some money. The guys went fishing one day & that night we grilled out fresh fish!! Can't get better than that!! Our condo was nice. It needs updated in the bathroom & the bedroom carpets but it was very clean. It would have been nice to have 2 showers but we made it work. It was good to have 2 toliets but if you have long legs you might not be able to use the one toliet unless you leave the door open! It was pretty tight. We loved our neighborhood, the Truman Annex- it was beautiful & very easy to walk everywhere. We would recommend the Shipyard Palms. I'm sure there is nicer places to stay but for the price you can't beat it.
We stayed at the Shipyard Palms in May of 2008. We were never in Key West before this stay. The Shipyard Palms was central to everything, yet far enough away for quiet relaxation. It was within walking distance to the beach and restaurants. Down the street a few blocks was a place where we could rent scooters. What fun!! The inside of the condo was beautiful as was the swimming pool. I can't wait until I get the chance to go back someday.
My husband and I traveled to Key West 5 years ago on our honeymoon. We loved Key West so much that we decided to travel back and brought our friends with us last summer. Shipyard Palms, managed by Rent Key West Vacations, was the perfect vacation home for all of us. We had all the amenities of staying in a comfortable and beautiful home, as well as being close to all that Key West has to offer. We can't wait to come back!
Shipyard Farms has everything, including a great location and comfortable, clean accommodations.
Truman Annex is one of THE BEST places to stay while in Key West. The community is loaded with amenities and just a stone's throw from Fort Zach State Park, with one of the most beautiful beaches in Key West. You are just 2 blocks from Duvall Street. The condo itself is excellent. It has a gorgeous back deck, where we spent many evenings throwing some food on the Barby and sipping beverages. The only issue that we had during our stay was that the condo above us decided that they were going to do a total renovation during the week that we were there ~ which happened to include laying new carpet. So sleeping in or napping wasn't much of an option, as we were awoken every morning at 8 am with the tapping and pounding of hammers. Other than that, this condo was a gem and I highly recommend it!!
Overall the property was lovely and comfortable. We had a great time. The location of the air conditioner evaporator in the bedroom closet is very noisy, as is the water pump, which had not been cleaned in a while and resulted in a leak of water in the bedroom. This was repaired quickly. The kitchen could have been equipped a little better with additional kitchen utensils and glassware. Additional beach towels would be nice. The deck and the pool were great.
This was the second year we spent at the Shipyard Palms. We had some issues the first year, that were fixed by the time we stayed this year. We find this place close, but not too close to Duval, and we can get anyplace in old town we want on food. Spent two weekss the last 2 years, and hope to be there again in 2010. Place is clean and very enjoyable, and there were four of us, and we were more than happy ther. All I can really say is we will stay there again.
This was a perfect location from which we could easily walk to everything, yet felt away from any hustle and bustle. We felt at home and comfortable in the unit - it had everything we needed to "do for ourselves" and was nicely decorated. The back deck was sunny and private and the beach and extensive state park facilitties were a 5 minute walk away.
My husband and I, along with another couple, stayed at the Shipyard Palms. We had a wonderful time. It is a lovely, bright, clean and pleasantly decorated little condo. The Truman Annex is beautiful, quiet, safe and conveniently located to Duval Street and Mallory Square. Everything is accessible by foot or by bicycle. A car is not needed. We love Key West and travel there 1-2 times a year. We always rent from RentKeyWest Vacations. I can honestly say that this company has never let us down. They are professional and courteous and we will continue to rent from RKW for all of our future trips to Key West.
The condo was close to all and had all the amenities that are needed to enjoy a "bring your swimsuit only" experience. You may want to add additional clothing but hey...you are in Key West! If we needed anything it was delivered! Best part....it is just off Duval St with an around the corner walk to the Harbor and Mallory Square.
