A lovely condominium located in the Truman Annex Shipyard Condominiums. Location is everything to be walking distance to Fort Zachary State Park Beach and in the heart of historic Old Town Key West, just 3 blocks to Duval Street. This two bedroom one bath condominium is approx. 650 sq. Ft. The small, but simple condo has an open living floor plan with french doors from the living room/kitchen leading to the back deck. The kitchen is small but well equipped. The master bedroom has a queen bed while the second bedroom has two twins. Step out the front door and right into the complex's swimming pool. There is an assigned parking space for this unit. Bedding: 1 queen, 2 twins
We stayed at Shipyard Splendor for 12 days. We were pleased with the rental process, cleanliness, and location by the pool. Unit is rates for four people, we had three. My issue with this unit is the furnishings. If they put some thought into re-furnishing the place, I would change my recommendation to a positive one based on location alone. The seating is not comfortable, other than the couch, there are only two straight-back kitchen type chairs. A coffee table or somewhere to set drinks other than on the floor. The bedrooms have no storage space for clothing. The kitchen needs to be inventoried and supplies upgraded in some cases. There are basics that are missing. The bathroom needs a shelf or something to store supplies in.
The location was wonderful!! The agent in your office was very friendly and helpful. The only problem we had was the 1st night there, we were converting the twin beds into a king bed, when I pulled the king sheets out of the closet, they didn't look clean, so I decided to wash them. We put them in the washer and were enjoying a drink (our flight had been delayed, so it was after 9:30 when we got there) when suddenly we noticed water all over the floor. I quickly turned off the washer and we noticed the drainpipe wasn't hooked up on the washer. We were able to hook it up, had to mop up the floor with the mop and several towels! It was a little frustrating since we already had gotten there late. After that, we had a great time. The location was perfect. The only other thing that was a little odd, was that we had to pick up the parking place at a separate place from your office. It could have been a little cleaner, but wasn't horrible.
The rental was orderly, clean, but in need of updating. It appeared to be a bit worn. It could have used a bit of new paint and some small updating for the bath & kitchen area.
Great location - 2 blocks from Duval St., near Zachary Taylor State Park, the Little White House, etc. - in a nice, quiet, gated community with a parking space and just in front of the pool. Unfortunately, the condo was in need of updating - the walls needed some paint (with the exception of the living area) and there was mold on the shower/bathtub tiles and the shower head was old & barely working. Could be a money-making condo if a little effort was put into some renovations.
It was the perfect place to stay. We took our children two young adults (20, 18) Who had a blast. It was close to everything including the beach and we could walk out the door to the pool and even though it was 95 degrees all of us were in it a lot. The rooms were spacious and the whole experience was worth the expense. We are making plans to come back next year to the same place around the same time of year. Thank you Rent Key West Vacations The Hein Family
rear deck needs work. No access through rear gate. Below par deck in back. Needs landscape work and cleaned up with gate available to come and go.
Rent key West Vacations did a spectacular, professional job. The accommodations were exactly as advertised. The facility was immaculate, the kitchen amenities great. A couple of reservations, however. The phone service inside the unit was terrible; and internet service was intermittent at best. This is a big drawback. Internet was better outside and by the swimming pool. The twin bed in my unit had a rather flimsy mattress. Otherwise, good facility. Excellent realtor.
Poorly maintained. There were ants in the kitchen - countertops, in the pantry, under the sink. We couldn't leave food out even for a few minutes or store any food in the pantry. I notified the staff, but the problem persisted for the whole of our stay. Also, a/c condenser located in patio was so noisy that the patio was unusable and it was even too noisy to sit and watch TV inside. Decor is dated and walls need repainting. Not value for money.
It was a great spot on the island, and the condo was a perfect fit for 3 adults. More than 3 would definitely be crowded. But overall, worth the money!
We enjoyed our stay at the Shipyard Splendor. We enjoyed the pool, back patio area and the walking convenience. The room at the front was a bit bright at night. Would have liked some room darkening curtains. Overall our visit to Key West was a fun experience. Will be back as soon as possible.
The location of this condo is very good in the Truman Annex area. The Shipyard condo complex is neat and tidy and the grounds are well kept. The area is close to everything yet is quiet at night. The condo itself has some issues however. The kitchen is ridiculously small, there is no dining table at all. The kitchen counter/sink area was infested with tiny crawling bugs that got into any food left on the counters. The window coverings are of very cheap quality and give good privacy but do not stop light from entering the condo at night - it was very difficult to get any sleep because of the brightness of the exterior lighting entering the bedrooms. The living room furniture was well worn and needs replacing. The TV is a flat screen and nice to watch. The bathroom is tiny (like the kitchen) and "finished" in the style of Motel 6. The shower curtain was the low-end flimsy plastic type as found at K-Mart. The patio door will only lock from outside with the key, as the deadbolt was not operating properly. The washing machine howled agonizingly on spin cycle. To add to this, workmen were refurbishing the upstairs unit and began promptly at 8;00 AM each morning, further reducing any chance for meaningful sleep. All the interior tile and trim work was installed in a very crude fashion giving an overall impression of a poorly constructed and cheaply finished "vacation" home. We stayed in Palm Springs last winter at a magnificent two bedroom golf course condo with granite counter-tops and high-end stainless appliances, a full dining room with seating for six, two luxurious full baths (one with marble shower), and two flat-screen TV's, plus high speed internet and covered parking, and all this for $500.00 less per week. Shop carefully, there must be better places in Key West for the same money or less.
The condominium was clean and nicely decorated. We didn't have a problem with noisy neighbors. Everything (A/C, refrigerator, plumbing, etc.) worked like it should. It was nice to have a grill and table on the back deck. We didn't use the pool but there was a lot of space around the pool for lounging, tanning, etc. Plenty of lounge chairs. The pool appeared to be well maintained. The grounds of the Truman Annex Shipyard Condominiums are maintained well. We traveled there on a motorcycle. I was a bit apprehensive about the parking before we arrived but it was nice to see the entire area including the parking was fenced and gated. No one messed with the bike while we were there. The only negative I can think of is the washing machine is noisy. It will be hard to not choose Rent KW Vacations for our next stay. We have used them in the past and have had good experience with them.
The location in Key West was great; close to everything but quiet locale. We had a problem with the television and maintenance was there promptly with a new television set. My one complaint is that the bedroom windows need dark shades or curtains. The outdoor lights stay on all night and shine directly through the window blinds. We finally rigged up a sarong in order to cover the window and get some sleep.
This condo now how a new flat panel TV, blender and stainless steel grill in the back patio.! And, as always, the location couldn't be anymore perfect.
We enjoyed our stay at the Shipyards, the condo was well located - the pool, State Park, access to the wharf area and Duval St. Service was excellent, we had a few problems and the staff quickly (within an hour) came by and fixed everything. The condo was well supplied-except for a few points. There was no coffee table in the living room and since there was not a table and only 2 bar stools, it made it difficult for 3 people to eat breakfast at the same time. The linens were past their prime--and the blankets had to be washed prior to use. The mattress pads and pillows were soiled and definitely need to be replaced. We would however stay there again, overall we enjoyed the condo and location.
Since this review was sent, the bedding (sheets and mattress pads) have been replaced with new ones.
Nice easy access to everything, beach, town, Mallory Square, all within easy walking distance or biking. The accomodations were fine, well cared for and clean. The only drawback is maybe the walls are just a little too thin, but overall a nice choice for the money.
