A tired ceiling fan barely moves the thick air in the Green Parrot and the beer warms quickly. It is these steamy days that that are reminiscent of days gone past. An era of Hemingway and Tennessee Williams, a time when only those in need of escape and solitude would venture into the sweltering heat of Keys. Keys life is not as brutal as it was back then, after all we do have air-conditioning. However, the bohemian nature of summertime in Key West still exists. For those that wish to escape to the island and relish in the tranquil nature of summer, it is a wondrous time to visit. The calm waters are warm and crystal clear making the snorkeling and diving spectacular. Many restaurants offer hurricane specials and the margaritas taste that much better. Summer visitors relish the sultry nature of the island; it means afternoon siestas, lounging in the pool all day and the exhilarating afternoon thundershowers give brief relief from the heat. Time to get away and relax on our little island. Our ‘live like a local’ tip this week is to ride your bike to Higgs Beach and go into Salute, http://saluteonthebeach.com/, for an afternoon appetizer and a drink. It is quiet, beautiful and relaxing. And remember, when you call to book your vacation rental feel free to ask us about great boat trips, kayaking adventures and restaurants we will be happy to point you in the right direction. See you soon!
